Day #2:
No matter how good I slept that night, I was still sore, and not ready for the day. We were going to walk less today, only eight miles instead of twelve. We had a HUGE breakfast. Each of us were given 2 pancakes, 3 pieces of bacon, scrambled eggs, as much hash browns as we wanted, yogurt, and orange juice. Definitely enough to start us off for the day.
As we gathered as a company, they said we were at the highest point we could go, and the rest of it was down hill. They also said that we might have to go a little up hill to get to the down hill part. In my opinion, there seemed like there were more up hill than yesterday. Maybe it was just because I was so tired and exhausted from the day before. But besides the whole hill issue, I did feel a little better. I didn't get tired as soon. I did have some problems with my knees, and I got complimented by the medical staff that I had one of the biggest blisters they had seen on that trip. But you know.
The last hill of the day was the steepest hill we had on trek. It felt like the womens pull but we had the men with us, so it was that much worse. A lot worse. We were all tired, even my 'brothers' that are like ox. But once we got to the top, we saw the thing that made us all rejoice. The green Port-O-Pottys. Once we saw those, we knew it was time for us to stop.
The Fair:
Have I mentioned the wind? Well, there was wind. Lots of it. And when we stopped for lunch (taco salad by the way), it was probably at it's worst. Our tortilla chips where flying everywhere making all the ugly seagulls happy. And when we had to start going again they requested for all the families to pray for the wind to stop for the fair. And so we did.
The wind did stop. It stopped five minutes before the fair. We had an amazing little miracle there.
I had a lot of fun at the fair. We had lots of games and activities. One of the games was a relay race. It involved jump roping, sack hopping, wood nailing, plant planting, wood chopping, egg finding, potato peeling, alphabet writing and button sewing. My part was the button. I did not like that button. I got stabbed three times with the needle. Mostly because of the pressure. Or I am just not capable with a needle.
We also had a hair washing. I didn't do it because we were going home the next day and I wanted to see how muddy I could get the shower water to be.
We had a little bakery where we tried ginger snaps covered in pioneer frosting. We made butter, and we learned about special candies they had. Over all, it was very fun.
The Hoedown:
I never thought that I could have so much energy after walking eight miles. When I heard that we were having a hoedown that night I just thought they were insane. I mean, no one would have enough energy to dance. But as they started gathering everyone up in a big circle, I figured, I might as well try, right? As it turned out, I had a lot of fun! I had a lot more energy than I thought I would. And it was just plain fun. But of course I bumped into a lot of people and forgot my steps and stuff like that. No surprise there.
As we got back to our tarp to go to sleep, we found that are sleeping bags were cold and wet. At first we all started accusing each other of pouring water on everyone's beds. But then we found out that we were near a little pond. So the air was really moist. I did not sleep as good this time.
